Most of us are familiar with the song “Amazing Grace.” We’ve likely heard it or sung it a thousand times. Yet, what is grace exactly? What does this gift from God look like?
In short, it’s His free gift that enables us to do things we cannot do on our own. It’s what garners questions from our loved ones such as: “How did you do that? How are you able to get through this challenge with peace?”
Here are a few examples from my life:
- When I was raising my children as a divorced parent, working full time, and studying for my MBA, it was God’s grace that kept me going.
- When I got laid off twice, it was God’s grace that provided for me and my children.
- When my parents passed away, it was God’s grace that comforted me.
- When my children were seeking jobs, it was God’s grace that gave them favor and opened doors.
I could go on and on with hundreds of examples, however here’s the point I want you to take from this:
God gives us grace for every place we are in.
“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16 NKJV)
Out of His abundant love for His children, God gives us grace to get through the trials that life can throw our way. It is this grace that strengthens our faith as we see God working in our lives.
It’s vitally important that we remember these times because inevitably, another trial is going to come our way at some point, and we need to remember how God’s grace got us through the previous one.
At times, we can be tempted to take all of the credit for our victories. We might think that the win was due to our intelligence, credentials, or connections. But what’s important to remember is that we would have none of these things if it were not for God giving them to us.
Think about that. It was God who gave us our brains, our ability to learn, our friends and family. Everything and I mean everything is a gift from God. We couldn’t take our next breath if it wasn’t for Him. Every breath we take, every move we make is a gift from God. When we give credit where credit is due, it opens us up for even more.
God’s amazing grace is always there to help us, provide for us, comfort us, and save us. Without it, we would be lost and blind. With it, we are found and we can see.
“Amazing grace! How sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see.”
Today, I want to encourage you to take a moment to reflect on all of the areas of your life where God’s grace abounded and thank Him for it. If you’re struggling, ask God to pour out His grace on you and your situation.
“You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 2:1 NKJV)
Then when your loved ones ask, “How did you do that?”, you can confidently say, “by God’s grace.”
May God rich bless you with His grace today!
