This week, I’ve been preparing to teach a Bible college class on the blessings of the Lord. Reading through the notes has been an wonderful reminder of all of the goodness of our Father in heaven.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” (Ephesians 1:3 NKJV)
Out of His abundant love, grace, and mercy towards His children, He has given us so much. Yet, do we miss it? In the hustle and bustle of life, have we overlooked the gifts, the confirmations, the answers to prayers?
I’m reminded of the Israelites wandering in the desert. They forgot that it was only “minutes” earlier that God parted the Red Sea and saved them from imminent death by the Egyptians.
- Then they got sick of the manna from heaven God provided so they could eat.
- Then they complained they had no meat so God caused quail to fall out of the sky.
- Then they whined because they were thirsty so God caused water to flow from a rock.
So much provision! So much complaining!
As I mentioned in last week’s blog, no judgement on these people whatsoever as we have all taken God for granted. It’s in our nature…we do it with friends, family, and loved ones. We do it with jobs, health, and provision.
But the good news is that this is easily changed! When we take our focus off our circumstances, we can appreciate all God is and everything He has done for us. God is a good Father and He is a Giver!
- He woke us up this morning, so He has a purpose for us today.
- He has blessed us with good health so we can fulfill our purpose.
- He has provided for us so that we can provide for others.
Most importantly, He has given His Son Jesus to make a way for us to spend eternity in heaven. That trumps everything else! That’s the greatest gift ever given as it guarantees our heavenly home.
And while it’s wonderful to think of our mansion in heaven, we do still live on planet earth. So how do we live this blessed life that God promised us all the way back to Abraham and that Jesus died for us to have?
Well – first, we need to know what those promises are, right? How can we live in a promise that we don’t know about? Every promise of God is written in the Bible, so it behooves us to “read the manual.”
Once we know what the promises are, then we have to grab hold of them and believe them with our whole heart. If you don’t really believe that divine health, provision, peace, and the myriad of other promises are yours, well, then you won’t live them.
We live out these promises by reminding ourselves of them every day. We write them out, we speak them, we listen to teachings on them. We do this all day if we have to until we know, like we know, like we know. We repeat them until we are so thoroughly convinced that no one or nothing can take them away from us.
Remember this…If God did it before, He will do it again. If He did it for the Israelites and the other people in the Bible, He will do it for you. All He asks is that you take Him at His Word.
God is not a man that He should lie, so you can count on every single one of His blessings coming to pass in your life.
So, are you blessed? Yes you are!
