What Is Your Vision?

Jen’s Gem:  God always has something better for you!

Recently, I created a new vision board using a graphic design program called Canva. Pretty cool! In the past, these “signposts” were developed using magazine photos or captions. Afterwards, my floor was inevitably covered in paper scraps. This time? Nothing to clean up!

The process was fairly simple. Open up a blank template, type in words that match what I am looking to manifest and voila! Photos filled my computer display. Cut, paste, done.

This process took “minutes” and for a moment I pondered its legitimacy. How could it be real if I didn’t invest hours and hours of time into it? Yet, every photo on the board represented a desire, a want, a need – so I resolved to call it done. “Print ‘em Dan-O!” Off to Staples I went to laminate it.

I looked at its predecessor, which I did about 6 years ago to see what progress had been made.

  1. I graduated Bible school.
  2. My faith in God has deepened.
  3. My daughter graduated college and has a good job.
  4. My son is working full time.
  5. I sold my home and downsized to a condo.

Not bad for a five-year run!

Even though there were things that have not yet come to pass, others have taken their place. Two books. A growing podcast. Teaching and speaking opportunities. Who knew?

God knew.

Here’s what I have learned. We cannot (and should not) put limits on God. Yes, we want to “write the vision and make it plain” (Habakkuk 2:2-3) for without a vision, we lose hope. “Hope deferred makes the heart sick” it says in Proverbs 13:12. A sure-fire way to the pit of depression is to lose hope and have nothing to look forward to.
But we cannot possibly see all that God can and will do for those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6) Sure I want the things represented on my vision board to come to pass, yet I’m willing to yield to God’s will for something different, something better.

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9 NKJV)

I want to encourage you to create a vision board for your life. Whether you do it manually or digitally doesn’t matter. Make it a family affair. See what’s on their hearts for their lives.

Then – give it all to God with a simple prayer:

“Lord, here’s the vision I want for my life. Your will be done.”
