What Do You Value?

Jen’s Gem: God has a mansion for you!

This morning as I turned on the coffee pot, I noticed that the button to heat the water had been shut off. While the machine will still brew, the result is cold, weak coffee. Bleh. Not exactly what I’d hoped for after a sleepless night.

I value my coffee, especially that very first cup. If you are a coffee drinker, you know exactly what I’m talking about. I also value the quiet of the morning when all is well in the world. No major mishaps, no drama…just stillness.

This week, I took a three-day sabbatical. I hadn’t planned to do this. I mean, I did just take a vacation! I believe it was divinely orchestrated and it was all jumpstarted by an email that I had ignored.

The message contained a video teaching on how to find, follow and fulfill God’s will for your life. When I first passed over it, it was not because I wasn’t interested, but I didn’t have the time to watch it in that moment. Yet, when I saw it the second time, I felt compelled to do so.

One video led to another and to another and before I knew it, hours had gone by. The next morning, I jumped out of bed to resume watching. Rinse and repeat the next day. I literally only came out of my room to eat and of course, get coffee!

During this three-day immersion, I watched seventy teachings, each thirty minutes long. Thirty-five hours. I will tell you that it was worth every single minute. I wouldn’t trade this time for the world not only because I learned a thing or two, but because it revealed some truths that I needed to “get into my guts” about the plan God has for my life.

When Jesus died, His disciples were left scratching their heads. Despite being told that He would rise again in three days, they didn’t get it. You can’t blame them really. It’s not like this was an every day occurence!

Just prior to His crucifixion, Jesus downloaded a slew of information to them so they would one day be able to share it with the world. (Matthew 28:16-20) What did Jesus tell them?

In short, He told them about heaven. He shared that there were mansions there for everyone. He talked about the streets being lined with gold. He told them that in heaven, there is no pain, suffering, or sickness. It was a place of perfect peace where its residents would live in harmony forever.

“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2 NKJV)

Woo – eee! Amazing, right?

Considering the broken world we live in now, it’s hard to imagine. Yet, it is truth. And we know that this was the reason why Jesus came to earth. This was His purpose: to show us the way to heaven.

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6 NKJV)

My friends, we are living in dark, dark times and it’s cray cray out there. As hard as it may be to believe, every single thing that is going on right now has been written about in the Bible.

Jesus wanted His disciples and every person after them to know what would happen after He left. This is why He downloaded so much information in the last hours of His life. This is why they were glued to His every word.

Jesus wanted His disciples to value these teachings above everything else. He wanted them to be laser-focused on sharing them with the world. Why? For a time such as this (Esther 4:14) so that you and I could have hope that even though the world is going nuts, there’s an eternity in heaven one day for everyone who chooses it, where coffee pots are not turned off and not only is the first cup perfection, but every single cup after it forever.
