Jen’s Gem: God’s love for you never ends.
When I was in high school, my best friend and I performed in the annual variety show. I played the piano and we sang “How Deep Is Your Love?” by the Bee Gees. My friend had (and still has) an outstanding voice. Me? Hmmm… I think they turned off my microphone!
After the show concluded, I immediately looked for my parents in the audience. They had come out to support me and sat through performances that were likely all over the map, including mine. It didn’t matter though. They were there.
That’s love my friend. Yet it is a drop in the bucket to how much our Father in heaven loves us. In fact, He loves us so much that our little brains can’t even comprehend this kind of love because it does not exist on planet earth. Oh sure, there’s love but it’s conditional most of the time. God’s love is unconditional.
We can never do anything to stop God from loving us. Let me say that again. Nothing, nothing, nothing we do can separate us from God’s love. It is impossible. Why? Because God is love. For Him not to love would be for Him to deny who He is and that ain’t gonna happen. “God is not a man that He should lie.” (Numbers 23:19)
He is who He says He is. He does what He says He will do. He keeps His promises. His Word is true. Every word out of His mouth is true. Every. Single. One.
So when Jesus told His disciples that He would rise again after three days, He was telling the truth. The empty tomb is the proof, along with Jesus’ own words:
“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again.” (Matthew 20:18-19 NKJV)
Today we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The ultimate expression of God’s love. He sent His only Son – His beloved Son – to die for us so that we could one day be with Him again in heaven. That’s how much He loves us. He wants us to be with Him for eternity. That’s a long time!
If you struggle with understanding God’s love for you, all you have to do is look at the cross to see how wide, how long, how deep, and how high God’s love is for you.
“… that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:17-19 NKJV) (Emphasis mine.)
If God didn’t love us, He would never have sent His Son to die for us. If God didn’t love us,
He would never have provided a way for us to have a relationship with Him through His Son. If God didn’t love us, when our physical lives ended, that would be it. End of story. But it’s not. Today is proof positive of that.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16 NKJV)
How deep is God’s love? One word. Jesus. Now that’s worth singing about!
